Business Studies

Business Studies is taught at Key Stage 4 as an optional subject in the school. In Years 10 and 11 students have three-hours a week in which they complete three units through a series of assignment-based tasks. The course introduces the students to the world of business, focusing on real businesses and how they operate.

The students then move on to studying business finance using Microsoft Excel to complete a series of financial reports as well as analysing the relationship between sales income, costs and profit.

Finally they produce a real business plan for their own business idea in a format that is recognised by the banking industry for small business start-ups. The qualification is the BTEC First certificate which is 100% coursework and is at Level 2 and is the equivalent of two GCSE’s.

We offer A level Business Studies in the sixth-form. This is a more traditional qualification that covers business set-up and management, as well as domestic and international growth. The four A level units are all examination-based.
