Drama

DramaDrama is very popular at Carshalton Boys’, as seen through our school productions and especially within classroom time.

Drama is an important presence at the school and is therefore taught as a separate subject throughout Key Stage 3, with one hour a week in Years 7, 8 and 9. This gives all students the opportunity to express themselves through the exploration of themes and issues, as well as learning the skills that this unique subject has to offer.

GCSE Drama is an option at in Key Stage 4, and A level is an option in a sixth form. Both are increasingly popular each year, and both produce impressive results.

Drama is a subject that encompasses a body of knowledge to be learnt, and students study drama theory and practice from Year 7 right through to Year 13. This gives students a greater awareness of the theatre arts and ways of lifting a play ‘from page to stage’. Students are expected to take a lively and keen interest in the main aspects of theatre, as well as being enthusiastic about studying literature and plays, delving into theatre history, visiting the theatre and most importantly, working as part of a creative team.

Drama is ideal for developing communication and presentation skills and building confidence. At A level it is suitable preparation for most arts and humanities degree courses. It fits well with most careers within the arts, media, public relations, advertising, journalism, education and law.
