English

English at CBSC is an exciting, engaging and entertaining subject that is an integral part of the curriculum. In Key Stage 3 boys are taught in ability sets that allow the lessons to be personalised and differentiated to meet the individual needs of the students.  The curriculum covers a wide range of topics focusing on a variety of fiction and non- fiction texts and developing the students as successful readers and writers. Students have 3 hours a week of English.

In Year 7 we have introduced the Fresh Start reading programme which focuses on those boys who are struggling as readers and at supporting them to improve.  This has a positive impact on their confidence, as well as their reading skills which is evident across the curriculum.

At Key stage 4 we study the AQA syllabus which develops and builds upon the skills secured at Key stage 3.  A testament to the positive experience of English that the boys have, is the fact that there are currently over 50 students studying English literature in the sixth form.
