Geography
In Year 7 students have one hour per week; this is increased to three hours over two weeks in Years 8 and 9.
The Geography curriculum has a broad base and includes aspects of the natural planet, as well as regional and economic geography. GCSE Geography is delivered over two years in Years 10 and 11. Pupils are required to undertake a fieldwork investigation, worth 25% of the overall GCSE.
The GCSE course has been designed to enable students to develop a sense of ‘awe and wonder’ and an appreciation of how humans interact with our planet.
In the sixth-form students can follow A-level Geography: the new specification introduced in 2008 looks at a wide range of global issues in the 21st century and encourages students to develop an independent and active learning style.
