Media Studies
Media Studies is a successful and exciting subject which is introduced to students in year 9. At Key Stage 3 students have the opportunity to study Media Studies for one lesson a fortnight; during this time they are introduced to the key concepts and explore how the media impacts on our world and our lives.
At CBSC students have access to a wide range of new media technologies and therefore develop their production skills alongside theoretical work.
At Key Stage 4 students have the option of taking Media Studies at GCSE level; the success rate for this course is excellent, producing results well above national averages for the subject. At GCSE the course is 50% coursework and 50% examination. Through the coursework students explore areas such as advertising, newsgathering and media ownership; they also have the opportunity to produce their own media texts, this year students have produced their own film trailers using digital cameras and professional editing software on our Apple Mac computers.
Post-16 students have the option of studying Media Studies at A Level and OCR Nationals Level 3 (this is a more practical based course and is 100% coursework based). Once again students' performance is above the national average, with their work reaching professional level. Beyond lessons students have access to extra-curricular media studies through film clubs: last year our students won several awards for their films and continue to develop their skills through their projects.
