Music

Music is a powerful form of communication that brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. It helps pupils understand themselves and relate to others, the teaching of music encourages active involvement in school and community concerts.

We have a wide range of peripatetic teachers available for instrumental lessons, plus an instrumental scholarship scheme for especially talented students.

During Years 7 and 8 students have three, one-hour lessons of music over a two-week period and during Year 9, two, one-hour lessons. The Key Stage 3 curriculum centres on developing pupils’ ability to perform and compose; in addition, through listening, exposes pupils to a wide range of musical styles and genres. Students also develop their ICT skills through use of our music technology suite.

GCSE and BTEC Level 2 are options at Key Stage 4, plus A level music at post-16.
