Year 9 Visit to the Royal Geographical Society Going Places Day
On Wednesday 18th January 24 of our budding geographers visited the beautiful Royal Geographical Society for a Going Places event. The day offers students studying geography as a GCSE option the opportunity to find out more about the subject, progression and careers. The day revolves around a series of fun, lively, interactive and hands-on workshops led by RGS Geography Ambassadors. Our students were involved in a series of workshops including an interesting session on cultural geography about the role of place in Disney films. The students particularly enjoyed a session on Geographical Information Systems and how landscapes and events such as earthquakes and volcanoes can be mapped using new technology. There were two further sessions on the Geography of Festivals and Climate Change. Well done to all of those involved and many thanks to Mrs Dunton and Mr Miller for accompanying us on the trip.
