The History Department ran another successful trip to the First World War battlefields of Ypres and the Somme at the start of October. The twenty eight year 9 pupils visited a variety of sites including museums, cemeteries and the very muddy WW1 Trenches and tunnels. They also attended the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate where they were very moved to see the names of the thousands who went missing in action in the Ypres area during the war. This experience will aid the boys with their work in year 9, including the upcoming trench model project. The boys represented the school, their parents and their country very well and showed enormous respect at all of the places visited. This was commented on by members of the public who were also very impressed by the boys’ knowledge. Well done to all the boys and a special thanks to Mrs Vaughan and Mr Sims for all their hard work and support.
