Mathematics
Mathematics
Mathematics is a core subject for all students throughout Key Stages 3 and 4, with A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics available in the Sixth Form. Our ambitious, carefully sequenced curriculum develops secure numerical fluency, deep conceptual understanding and confident problem-solving through a mastery approach. Students are encouraged to reason mathematically, communicate using precise mathematical language and apply their knowledge to unfamiliar and real-world situations. We have high expectations for every learner and ensure that all students receive the support and challenge needed to succeed.

Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to build knowledge progressively from Year 7 through to A Level.
- Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9): Students develop fluency in number, algebra, geometry, ratio, probability and statistics while strengthening mathematical reasoning and problem-solving.
- Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11): Students follow the GCSE Mathematics curriculum, developing confidence in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, financial mathematics and examination skills.
- Key Stage 5 (Years 12–13): Students choosing A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics extend their understanding of calculus, mechanics, statistics and mathematical modelling, preparing them for higher education and careers in STEM and beyond.
Assessment
Regular assessments allow teachers to identify misconceptions quickly and provide personalised feedback through Personal Learning Checklists (PLCs). This helps students understand their strengths, address gaps in knowledge and make sustained progress.
Beyond the Classroom
Students have access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including Maths Club, UK Mathematics Trust Challenges, Maths in Action lectures, university preparation for courses requiring mathematics (including MAT and TMUA), and mentoring opportunities led by our Sixth Form mathematicians. These experiences encourage curiosity, resilience and a genuine enjoyment of mathematics.
Careers
Mathematics develops highly transferable skills including logical reasoning, analytical thinking, problem-solving and data interpretation. These skills provide an excellent foundation for careers in engineering, finance, computing, economics, medicine, data science, teaching and many other professions.
