Roles and responsibilities
The responsibility for Remote Learning is through the Leadership Team at CBSC. The nominate staff aligned to this are:

This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if their child has to self-isolate because they have tested positive or students who are abroad facing challenges to return due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, for the period they are abroad.
How will the remote curriculum at CBSC be taught to pupils?
Students are required to continue to follow the curriculum, if well enough to do so, whilst self-isolating at home. They must follow their usual timetable and use Google Classroom to access classwork. They should aim to work the same amount of time that they would when attending school, including completion of Work Outside the Classroom (WOTC) via Class Charts where possible.
Students will be required to:
- Check there are any lesson resources or work shared with them in their usual subject Google Classrooms.
- Check any WOTC set on Class Charts for the subjects on their timetable for that day and complete this
- Go to the ‘Working From Home Google Classroom’ for their year group and complete any subject work shared under the topic headings
- If they have finished everything and still have time left, they should be addressing any gaps in their knowledge, by using platforms such as BBC Bitesize and Oaks Academy to do further lessons
The Working From Home Google Classrooms:
- Each year group has their own Working From Home Google Classroom in which all students are a member of
- This Classroom contains lots of activities which students can work through following their usual timetable
- The resources are organised by topics, so students can easily navigate to the subject they need to be focused on
- Students will see which lessons they should be focussing on via the Google Classroom Stream (from June 6th 2022). Until this time, if students are isolating, they should use the most recent subject resources shared.
What should students do if they are struggling?
If students do not know what to do whilst working from home, they must email their Head of Year as soon as possible using their School Google Mail.
In the situation where a child with SEND is working from home, extra support will be provided by the relevant year group pastoral team, classroom support assistant (where relevant) and remote Learning Lead Hannah Baker.
Google Classroom Guidance:
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
Your child will be set tasks in accordance with their timetable. They are expected to be in class and on task for each lesson of the day. Each lesson set should take your child the normal allocated time in their timetable. They should complete the tasks at the set times noted below.
8:40am to 9am
9am to 10am
10am to 11am
11am to 11:30am
11:30am to 12:30pm
12:30pm to 1:30pm
2pm to 3pm
Period 6 (Y11 lessons)
3pm to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
Will my child receive additional work to complete outside of normal teaching hours?
All pupils will receive WOTC, and they will be required to have to supplement this study with extended hours beyond the usual school day. WOTC tasks (Work Outside the Classroom) will be uploaded to Class Charts. We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:
- Pupils in Years 7 to 10 will be taught for 5 hours per day.
- Pupils in Year 11 will have five lessons every day but will also have a sixth lesson on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Blue Week only).
- Y10 pupils will also be offered the opportunity to access subject surgeries alongside Y11s during period six lessons.
- Sixth form pupils will follow their normal timetable but will be expected to be engaged and on task for at least five hours per day.
Accessing remote education
How will my child access the online remote education that CBSC are providing?
CBSC will be using the Google Classroom platform for all remote learning and Class Charts for WOTC/
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. CBSC will take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education. We will ensure that any pupil who does not have digital access will gain provision through:
- The distribution of school-owned laptops. CBSC will provide a Chromebook if one is required.
- Providing printed resources where needed, such as textbooks and workbooks, to structure learning. This will be supplemented with other communication from teachers to keep pupils on track or to answer questions about their work.

How will the school ensure that they are delivering remote education in a safe way?
Keeping children safe online is essential. The statutory guidance keeping children safe in education provides schools and colleges with information on what they should be doing to protect their pupils online. CBSC will use the following guidance to ensure that remote education is safe.
- safe remote learning, published by SWGfL
- online safety and safeguarding, published by LGfL, which covers safe remote learning
- the National Cyber Security Centre, which includes which video conference service is right for you and using video conferencing services securely
- safeguarding and remote education during coronavirus (COVID-19)

How as a community can we ensure that we keep devices safe and secure?
In conjunction with the school’s IT Support department, pupils and staff will take appropriate steps to ensure their devices remain secure. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Keeping the device password-protected – strong passwords are at least 8 characters, with a combination of upper and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters (e.g. asterisk or currency symbol)
- Ensuring the hard drive is encrypted – this means if the device is lost or stolen, no one can access the files stored on the hard drive by attaching it to a new device
- Making sure the device locks if left inactive for a period of time
- Not sharing the device among family or friends
- Installing antivirus and anti-spyware software
- Keeping operating systems up to date – always install the latest updates
